Bluefaced Leicester, so easy to spin (or knit with 8-10 mm needles). Splits to about 85 yards for knitting. 3.5 oz., . Beautiful shades of greys and greens.

FUN FACT: Split the roving lengthwise into two (it helps to get someone with you as the fibre twists as it unwinds). Make into two balls and use the fibre to knit with. Here is a simple but effective pattern, using the 100 gms of pencil roving.

Beanie style. Will fit average adult head.

Needles: 8mm 16” circular, 9mm 16” circular, set of 9 mm double pointed needles

Using Smith and Ewe hand dyed pencil roving yarn, with 8 mm needles, cast on 44 stitches. Place marker and join in round.

Round 1: K1, P1 for 7 rows.

Change to 9 mm needles.

Round 8-12 *P2, K2; repeat from *

Round 13-16 *K2, P2; repeat from *

Round 17-20 *P2, K2; repeat from *

Round 21-23 *K2, P2; repeat from *

Start of crown decrease rounds:

Round 24 *P2, K2 together; repeat from * 33 stitches

Round 25-26 *P1, K2; repeat from *

Round 27-29 *K1, P2; repeat from *

Round 30 *K1, P2 together; repeat from * 22 stitches!

Round 31-32 *P1, K1; repeat from *

Switch to DPN needles to finish decreasing.

Round 33 *K2 together to end 11 stitches

Break yarn, leaving approximately 6”, pull yarn through remaining stitches using a tapestry needle and weave in the end. Be careful when pulling the yarn through – use little tension so as to not break the yarn.
