Hand knit with hand dyed and handspun 100% wool, length 10 1/2". "Thrums" originally were yarn waste from weaving looms. Many years ago, knitters in Newfoundland and Labrador found a way to use these thrums in mittens, making them almost waterproof for the fishermen. Now I use processed wool fleece for the thrums, which are knitted along with my handspun and hand dyed yarn to form "puffs" inside the mittens. As these mittens get worn, the thrums will felt and blend together, forming a thick double layer on the inside of the mitten.
